Janel Schermerhorn, former President of the American Women’s Club of Berlin (AWC Berlin), shines the spotlight on one of the social organization’s most patriotic events of the year: the Fourth of July BBQ Celebration!
Who is Welcome?
All are welcome to the American Women’s Club of Berlin (AWC Berlin)! Just as with all events held by AWC Berlin, the Fourth of July BBQ Celebration is open to women of all nationalities living in the wonderful city of Berlin, Germany. Although the organization is named the American Women’s Club of Berlin, the organization is open to women from all over the world who embrace and embody the American Spirit.
What is the American Spirit?
Everyone is welcome to attend any American Women’s Club of Berlin event — including the Fourth of July BBQ! Janel Schermerhorn is proud of AWC Berlin’s commitment to embracing the American Spirit, which the organization defines as:

- Desire to Learn and Grow
- Driven to Make a Difference
And, of course, having a great time while volunteering is all a part of that American Spirit! As someone dedicated to building stronger communities, Janel Schermerhorn particularly appreciates this integral value of AWC Berlin. Schermerhorn was President of the organization from 2017 to 2019, during her time living in Berlin, Germany.
Fourth of July BBQ
On the Fourth of July, the American Women’s Club of Berlin will celebrate American patriotism with a BBQ. Hosted on the holiday weekend, the BBQ will take place Sunday, July 6, 2025 at 12 PM noon to 3 PM. All are welcome to attend to celebrate American culture with the vibrant community of AWC Berlin.
